Breast Lift

Breast sagging, softness and deformation are among the topics that women are most care for. The breast tissue, which consists of completely fat glands and milk ducts that do not contain any muscle, loses its live and tight appearance due to gravity, aging, weight loss, giving birth, breastfeeding, and wrong bra using.

In such cases breast lift, also known as Mastopexy, can be preferred to re-shape the breasts.

Why do breasts sag?

The breasts gradually sag through time with the effect of gravity and the skin loses its elasticity due to age. Frequent weight loss, giving birth and breastfeeding may cause sagging at earlier ages.

How is Mastopexy performed?

It is performed under general anesthesia. It may take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the technique that will be used. If the sagging is subtle, a small silicone implant is placed under the breast. If the sagging is severe, the same procedure is applied as a breast reduction, with the exception of reducing the breast tissue itself. If the breast tissue is not enough, a small implant is placed under the breast and the skin is tightened to eliminate the sagging. This type of mastopexy is the hardest amongst all. In this case, surgeon decides the size of the silicone prothesis that will be placed during the surgery.

After a Mastopexy surgery

After a breast lift surgery, more than one dressing are made on the chest region. Since dissolvable stitches are used during breast lift surgery, suture removal is not required and the patient can return to work within 3-4 days. Swelling can occur in the breasts for 1 week. Your new under breast curve will settle over time. Although the shape of your breasts will be better after 1 month, it will take its final form after 6 months. It is recommended to stay away from physical activity for 1 month. Mastopexy surgery is generally an operation that gives good and permanent results, improves the mental health of the patient and makes them more committed to life. Re-shaped breasts will keep their new form for a long time but pregnancy, weight loss and aging can still affect it after the surgery.

FAQ

  1. 1
Will I have any scars after my Mastopexy surgery?

As a result of the incisions made, scars will appear on the suture lines. Although these scars can be more distinct and pinkish in the first months, they will soften and their colors will fade and become less visible. However, these scars are not likely to bother the patient as they are left hidden under the bra and bikini.

  2. 2
Is there a non-surgical Breast Lift technique?

Now in the day there is not such technique that lifts the breasts non surgically. Anatomically there is not any relation between chest muscle and breast sagging. As the skin becomes loose within time, chest muscles can not lift them.

  3. 3
Can I breastfeed after a Mastopexy surgery?

It would not be accurate to say yes in this case, but if there is a certain technique used, you most probably will be able to breastfeed. The most important rule is that breast tissue and milk ducts should not be surgically intervened. If there is a need of replacement of areola in which the areola is removed and stitched back to an upper part of the chest, the patient is most likely to have problems brestfeeding. But if “central pedicule” technique is used, breast tissue and milk ducts are hold together and the patient will not have any problems breastfeeding.

  4. 4
Can breast prothesis lift the breasts?

Usually they can not. In some cases they can lift the areola and nipple a little but it is not enough by itself. Breast implants are only used for augmentation.

  5. 5
Is it possible for the breasts to sag again after a Mastopexy?

A pregnancy or major weight changes after a breast lift surgery can cause a sagging breast again. Therefore, it would be more accurate to perform lifting surgery in patients who are no longer planning to have a child and whose basal body weight does not fluctuate frecuently.
